Don’t Mock the Dice Odds

A year or so ago I was running a game for a bunch of friends who had never played D&D before. I'd dropped them in a room flooding with water from a sprung trap and an invisible maze between them and the exit.

While the Drow Assassin, Tiefling Warlock, and Half-Orc Barbarian tried to feel their way through, one of the newest players, a Fire Genasi Swordmage, tried to stay behind and block the gush of water. He'd accidentally busted one of the pipes wide open while managing to pinch another one closed.

He turned to me and said, "I want to sit on it."
